And in retrospect it should be obvious, the screen material is clearly too thin to handle ordinary treatment that can be reasonably expected during assembly. Especially considering how sharp the corners are. I'm surprised they didn't pierce my carpet. Perhaps this thickness of material is fine for their smaller versions of the screen but not for the 150 inch version.
There's more evidence as well that they didn't consider the design of the 150 inch version. The manual is generic, designed for all the different sizes for this series, which is fine, but the 150 inch version has extra support materials that seemed to be an afterthought judging by how poorly they're described in the manual.
I strongly recommend that you do not buy this unless you're willing to accept the risk that you will lose your investment to a rip in the screen.
Another complaint is that it is not designed to come apart again once its made, or if it is, it's designed very poorly to that end. The velvet border is just a roll of tape that you're instructed to stick on around the edges, and given how much stretching you have to do to get the screen in place, it's really unlikely that tape position will be remotely acceptable if you take the screen off of the frame. But even without considering the border, I wouldn't recommend ever disassembling it anyway, because of how much stretching you have to do to get the screen in place. I suspect it would start to sag, and also it's likely to develop more rips if you attempt it anyway.
So I strongly recommend you do not buy this unless you're willing to make it a permanent fixture of whatever room you initially assemble it in, unless by some miracle you think you could move this beast into another room without taking it apart first.
Let me tell you what this is. It is just a very, very cheap LED light strip from China. It is in no way a ‘custom backlight kit’. I have purchased a great number of these, not as backlights, but as accent lighting for use under counters, and such, from Chinese sellers on eBay, and basically every one of them has broken... and in relatively short order. They are garbage.
The ultra-cheap remotes are most certainly not designed to be used in the vicinity of anything else which is remote-controlled, as they interfere with absolutely everything! They are absolutely horrible, just like everything else in these kits. The adapters burn-out, not long after the cheap, cheap LED control box stops working, and will only display the LEDs in blue. The strip itself is also extremely fragile, and any twisting whatsoever, and half, or all of the LEDs are out of commission.
But, that’s not the worst part...
When these kits first came out, in around 2011 they were kind of expensive, in comparison to their cost today.. A five metre strip, power adapter, controller, and remote would run you about... $20. Yes. Only $20.
Unfortunately, it gets worse...
You can now buy exactly what you purchased, on eBay for under $10. It’s a bit more here on Amazon, but even though I only quickly looked, I still had no problem finding basically the identical product for around $16... The same product for which Elite Screens charges $120!
I am so sorry for anyone that Elite Screens ripped off with this terribly sub-par, and overpriced product. It’s very unfair, and I’m not sure how they can even sleep at night, given their heinously unethical business practices. I purchased an Elite Screens projector screen earlier this year, and have been very happy with it. I totally planned on buying another, but after seeing this travesty, I will never purchase anything from them again.
Truly disgusting! Both Amazon, and Elite Screens are to blame for this horrific scam!
The screen was awesome for the FIFA World Cup!
